Five years after the earthquake shook the small state of Haiti and destroyed much of its health infrastructure and facilities, MSF continues to offer emergency obstetric, neonatal, surgery and intensive care in Port-au-Prince and Léôgane. MSF also runs a cholera treatment centre and a burns unit in Port-au-Prince.

Emilie Venables is an anthropologist based in Johannesburg, South Africa. She has conducted qualitative research in medical programs in countries including South Africa, Liberia, Kenya, Mozambique and Senegal. She has worked with MSF as the Mobile Implementation Officer for qualitative research since May 2015.
