As tens of thousands of people have returned to the town of Mocímboa da Praia over the past months, Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has established a medical project to assist vulnerable groups in the northern Mozambican district.

He explains the insights of preparing and carrying out relief items kits distributions in a fluid context, where recent violence and rumours of attacks have displaced more than 80,000 people since early June, the biggest wave of displacement so far this year in this northern Mozambican province hit by conflict since 2017.

The northern province of Cabo Delgado is one of Mozambique’s most volatile regions, the scene of an intense conflict since October 2017, resulting in some 800,000 people fleeing from their homes. These are the latest developments.

Atija Bacar is 66 years old and lives in Eduardo Mondlane, a camp for people who are internally displaced in Mueda, in Cabo Delgado. She works with MSF as a traditional birth attendant, pregnancy and childbirth care providers living in the community, and assists more than 100 women in the camp.
